WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Dr Mircea Iosif is clinically approved to offer Medicinal Cannabis to eligible patients who may suffer from a chronic or terminal medical condition where conventional medicines do not work, do not work effectively, or have unpleasant side effects.

 

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

You will need to have a discussion with your regular GP or Specialist in order to obtain a referral to Dr Iosif and a copy of your full medical history, inclusing relevant and recent results, reports and GP Management Plans (GPMP) relating to your illness or condition.  If your referral does not include the required, comprehensive information, your application which will be forwarded to the Therapeutic Goods Administration ("TGA") by Dr Iosif will, at best, be delayed and at worse, be declined.

 

WHY DO I  NEED A REFERRAL TO SEE DR IOSIF FOR MEDICINAL CANNABIS?

The referral from your GP (or specialist) will allow Dr Iosif to obtain important information regarding your chronic medical condition as well as what medications you are taking you are taking, any tests or procedures that have been conducted in relation to your medical condition and any of your other relevant medical history that will help determine your candidacy for Medicinal Cannabis. Dr Iosif must submit your application to be prescribed Medicinal Cannabis to the TGA. With inadequate or insufficient  information your application, prepared by Dr Iosif, will be declined.

 

IS A MEDICINAL CANNABIS APPOINTMENT BULK BILLED?

No

 

HOW MUCH DOES AN APPOINTMENT COST WITH DR IOSIF?

You will require 4 appointments:

1. Registration Consultation and information - $85.00

2. Eligibility Consultation - $85.00

3. Comprehensive Health Assessment and determination of appropriate dose - $250.00

4. Prescription and instruction Consultation - $85.00

5. Follow-up Consultations - $85.00

6. Annual Review - $175.00

 

WHEN WILL I KNOW WHEN I WILL BE ABLE TO GET MEDICINAL CANNABIS?

After the third Consultation, Dr Iosif will know that your are eligible and he will have sufficient infromation regarding your past history and your current eligibility to submit the required application and relevant information to the TGA.  Approval can take 1 - 2 weeks.

 

WHEN WILL I GET THE PRESCRIPTION FOR MEDICINAL CANNABIS AND HOW MUCH WILL I GET PER WEEK?

Once your application to the TGA is approved you will be contacted for a follow-up Consultation where the appropriate dosage will be prescribed. Dr Iosif will explain your dosage with you and how much to use each week. There is no standard dosage as every patient has different circumstances and requirements, depending on their health condition.

Pharmacies are not permitted to stock Medicinal Cannabis. You must take in your prescription and they will process it accordingly, and then advise you when it is available to collect. Pick up time frames are usually within a day or processing.

One week after the the commencement of the Medicinal Cannabis Medication a follow-up appointment will be required to review your treatment, and Dr Iosif will determine when to attend further consultations thereafter.

An Annual Review will be required if you remain on Medicinal Cannabis for at least one year. The TGA will notify Dr Iosif when your Annual Review is due, and Dr Iosfi will notify you when to attend your Annual Review appointment.

 

HOW MUCH WILL THE MEDICINAL CANNABIS COST AND IS IT INCLUDED IN THE CONSULTATION FEE?

The cost for Medicinal Cannabis is not included in your consultation fee and you can expect the costs to be between $4 - $10 per day.

 

I AM CURRENTLY PRESCRIBED MEDICINAL CANNABIS FROM ANOTHER PRACTICE, CAN I JUST SEE DR IOSIF TO GET A NEW SCRIPT?

As Medicinal Cannabis is a heavily regulated medication, strict guidelines apply and an initial consultation with Dr Iosif will still be required. All relevant paperwork will need to be supplied.

 

IF DR IOSIF IS UNAVAILABLE AM I ABLE TO SEE ANOTHER GP AT MEDICAL AT NERANG?

Dr Iosif is the only approved GP at Medical at Nerang able to see patients in relation to Medicinal Cannabis.

 

I HAVE A SORE BACK, WILL I BE APPROVED?

All medical conditions and patients are different. Dr Iosif will comprehensively discuss your medical history with you and advise whether or not your condition makes you a viable candidate for Medicinal Cannabis. At present Medicinal Cannabis is available for patients who have a chronic condition that has been ongoing for more than 3 months and is not responding to standard treatment and medications, or the current treatments have side effects.
